No. 3 Emily's Duluth Abode

The Plot.
What a great weekend.  We drive up to Duluth Friday night, the night before Grandma's Marathon.  Along the way we pass a bus decked out in Maroon and Gold with "Go Gopher" signs all over the place.  Honking ensued.  That night we set up our gear a little bit, and then took to the town.  Thought about the Beer Garden, but it was $10 bucks just to get in.  Suck.  So instead we went to the Green Mill and enjoyed some local brews.  The waitress was cool, so we invited her to the concert (she never came).  The next morning, we got up early to go see Emily complete the half marathon she had started at 5am.  We gave her so much crap the night before.  There's a van that picks you up if you don't run a 10 minute mile (otherwise the full marathoners catch up to you).  We kept telling her the van was going to have to pick her up.  As we were standing there, we started to get worried that it might actually come true, but luckily for us she rounded the final corner on foot. It took Emily 2 hours and 20 minutes to finish her half marathon.  It took the winner of the full marathon (a kenyan... big suprise) 2 hours and 8 minutes.  Way to go Em! ;)

After the race, we returned to Emily's to practice.  Lot's of practice.  That night was by far our best sounding concert.  We started at around 8.  Our 10 guests (5 roadies, 5 non roadies) sat/stood/danced in the living room as we played on for the next 2 hours.  It was small, but a good time.  At "intermission" the band retreated to the green room (the dining room that had curtains on the doors to shut it off from the rest of the house) to relax and eat some food.  About 20 seconds later the room was full of everybody else.  Everybody had backstage passes so we couldn't kick them out.  The bastards ate all our M & Ms.

The second set ruled as much as the first.  More dancing, more singing, more yelling for Freebird...  We ended with Gopher Riot and walked off stage.  Everybody in the living room knew we had an encore piece lined up, but they thought they'd be funny and stopped clapping the minute we got off stage.  Bastards.  So we came back on to silence and played Brown Eyed Girl for them.  After the concerts we drank in the Kitchen and sang some band songs.  About halfway through our concert it had started to rain pretty bad. After Emily's parents came home (buzz kill) some of us ran over to Chops house to continue the festivities, others of us went to bed like losers.  It was then discovered that our sleeping room in the basement was flooded due to the rain.  So some of our stuff got wet and a little bit smelly.

So some damaged stuff, some drinking time, a concert, and a marathon.  Not a bad weekend overall.
